What Snail Points stores

Only what it needs to work: your profiles, the name and emoji on each card, point totals, and your two settings (the redeem cost and whether negative points are allowed). Card and profile names are encrypted before they are saved.

Snail Points also records when you accept the Terms and Privacy Policy and which version you accepted.

Use first names only, or add a last initial if two students share a name. Don't enter full names or anything else about a student.

Students

Students never sign in or create an account, and Snail Points collects nothing from them directly. The only student information it holds is what a teacher types onto a card.

Many districts require approval before teachers use an app with student names. Check with yours first. This page is what they will want to see.

Sign-in

Sign-in uses Google through Netlify Identity. Netlify keeps your email address as part of your sign-in account. Snail Points' own database stores only a one-way hash of it, which cannot be turned back into your address.

Snail Points does not store your IP address. Netlify, which hosts the site, keeps standard server logs that may include it.

What Snail Points never does

Deleting your data

Deleting a card or profile removes it permanently. "Delete account" in the menu permanently removes all of your data and your sign-in account. Deleted data can remain in encrypted database backups for up to 30 days before it is erased.

If something goes wrong

If a security breach affects your data, you will be told by email and by a notice on this site as soon as possible.

Changes to this page

If this page changes in a way that affects how your data is used, the new version will be posted here with a new date before it takes effect.
